What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of human growth-hormone-releasing factor, also called growth-hormone-releasing hormone. A specific tesamorelin prescription product is FDA-approved for a defined indication and formulation. Research vials are not automatically equivalent to that approved drug.

How does it work in research?

Tesamorelin binds and stimulates growth-hormone-releasing-factor receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells. That signal promotes synthesis and pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone, which in turn changes downstream signaling including IGF-1 and IGFBP-3. This is a receptor-mediated endocrine pathway, not a direct replacement of growth hormone.
